One of the maps that will feature in the exhibition is pictured above; This “Civil and Ecclesiastical Map of Ireland” by Rev Daniel Augustus Beaufort (1729-1831) was printed in 1792. It measures 42” x 37” (109 cms x 91 cms)… has original full hand colour.. was published in London on March 1st 1792 by W Faden and W Allen. Rare first edition of this map is in excellent condition. The map sold for sixteen shillings for a coloured copy in 1792 and was reprinted on a number of occasions. Apart from its incredible detail, Beaufort introduced a number of innovations including the first use of hachures, closely spaced lines depicting relief on a national map. He was rector of the Church of Ireland in Navan, a founding member of the Royal Irish Academy and a prominent member of the Royal Dublin Society
