Isle et Royaume D’Irlande…1748 by Gilles Robert de Vaugondy (1688 – 1766)…7″ x 7″ (18cms x 18 cms)…original outline hand colour…from Vaugondy’s “Atlas Portratif Universel et Militaire” published in Paris in 1748.. map is dated in the title cartouche … Gilles Robert de Vaugondy (1688-1766), also known as Le Sieur or Monsieur Robert, and his son, Didier Robert de Vaugondy (c.1723-1786), were leading French cartographers. This rare and beautiful map depicts the entire island with county and regional subdivisions defined. Beautiful original hand colour. In 1757, they published the “Atlas Universel” , one of the most important atlases of the 18th century. In 1760, Didier Robert de Vaugondy was appointed geographer to Louis XV.
